How To Save Mobile Data

Cloud storage, audio and video streaming, rich browsing, turn-by-turn navigation, and more can greatly reduce the load on your mobile data connection. Some apps are notorious for using large amounts of data, so it is recommended that you do not use them while connected to the mobile internet. When your data plan ends, you may tend to rely on your work phone for mobile internet. In most cases, your mobile operator assigns you a monthly data limit, or you're on a prepaid plan.

You can set a fixed limit based on your data plan, and when you hit this limit, your mobile connection will be automatically disabled. Both Android and iPhone have an optional setting: if the limit is reached, the phone will turn off mobile data.

Before restricting data usage in the Settings app on your phone, check if you can restrict data usage in the app's settings menu. Allow or restrict the use of background data by applications You can control how applications use the data on your phone. Click on the app you want to restrict and turn off background data.

Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh to turn off cellular data usage completely. Open the Settings app > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Network access > Selectively deselect the apps you want to block mobile data usage.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data usage > Data warnings and limits (or Data limits and billing cycle) to set the maximum amount of data you want to use in a month. Just go to Settings -> Data usage to see how much mobile data you've used over time, and how much data each app is using. You'll see a list of apps and the amount of data each app used during the specified time period.

Go to Settings > Cellular and you'll see how much data you've used in your current billing period, and below you'll see a list of your apps. Users can also view data for any past month, provided of course that data usage has been used.

You can also access individual apps in the system settings and prevent them from accessing data while they're not being actively used. Here you can prevent the application from using mobile data in the background, or, conversely, allow unlimited data usage. Instead of restricting background data usage for all apps, you can simply change only those apps that use too much data. If you see that some application is consuming too much data, you can easily disable it.

Once the data saver is enabled, Android will prevent all apps from using data in the background or even while sleeping. If you're using Chrome for Android, be sure to enable its data-saving mode, which compresses all data before it's sent to your device. Android has a feature to turn on the data saving mode on the phone to save a large amount of data when the phone is in sleep mode. Many Android streaming apps such as Netflix and YouTube Go offer a smartphone data saving mode that effectively reduces data usage.

Many apps come with data saving options that may not matter for limited use, but will certainly help in the long run. There are many data-intensive apps that enhance your mobile experience. The use of data-intensive applications can seriously affect data consumption on the mobile network. Whether you prefer to activate some settings, use a browser that compresses your data, or realize that you really don't need anything more than public Wi-Fi, using fewer data will save you money.

If you plan to use public Wi-Fi to reduce cellular data usage, be sure to connect to a secure network and to secure websites and apps. In the past year, it's likely that you've been connected to your home Wi-Fi network while using your mobile device, reducing the amount of cellular data you're using. If you want to be 100% sure that your iOS device won't use your phone for any updates, then you need to disable the new Wi-Fi support available since iOS9 was released. Turn on the option to download software updates only when your Android smartphone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

You can set your device to update apps over Wi-Fi to save monthly data only. One of the easiest ways to save some data is to make sure your apps only update when connected to Wi-Fi. You can disable this option in the Google Play Store so that it doesn't consume your data every time you update your apps. This ensures that the application only consumes data when it is opened and therefore uses fewer data.

Choose the best plan according to your need. You can choose a plan to carry forward your unused data of the day. For eg, if your daily data limit is 1.5GB per day and you barely used 500MB, 1GB of your data will be considered as unused and will get carried forward.
